Bad day on the salt

Motorcyclist killed in Salt Flats crash

A motorcyclist was killed in a 200-mph crash Wednesday afternoon.

Cliff Gullett, 47, of Bozeman, Mont., was riding in a speed trial when he lost control of his motorcycle and crashed on the Salt Flats about 4 p.m., said Tooele County Sheriff's Chief Deputy Duke North.

Gullett was wearing protective gear, but died from injuries sustained in the crash.

Investigators were unsure what caused Gullett to lose control of his motorcycle, North said. The investigation is ongoing.

A friend of mine is out at Bonneville for the Bub Trials this week and he phoned me this evening about the accident. I had been following the news of today's events sporadically via postings on the Land Speed Racing forum. I saw the above posting about 30 minutes ago. I phoned my friend out there and the atmosphere is, as you would imagine, rather subdued.

I guess the streamliner Cliff Gullett was riding/driving did several pencil rolls before flipping end for end.

Re: Bad day on the salt

Sad day indeed. One of these days I'll make it out there. I hope it's not my LAST day if ya know what I mean.
