How to use the vBPicGallery

OK, there seems to be considerable confusion as to how the vBPicGallery works. So, I've set up a test gallery and logged all the necessary steps, to prepare this tutorial.

Step 1 - Look up in the NavBar and you will see a menu item, vBPicGallery. Click on it.

Step 2 - A new page will open and there will be a second NavBar, under the first. Click on Manage My vBPicGallery.

Step 3 - You are now adding a new vBPicGallery. There is an entry field, Year Make Model. In that field, enter the name you want for this gallery, i.e. 'Cook-out at Aunt Matilda's'. If you want to have multiple galleries from the cook-out, then type a Subject for this gallery, i.e. 'Uncle Hamish Making Lemonade'. If you want a further description, then enter a Type. When you are satisfied with everything, click Submit.

Step 4 - In the text entry window, type a description for the gallery, i.e. 'This gallery contains images of Uncle Hamish making lemonade for the cook-out, back in July of 2004. Look at the way his cigar ashes keep falling into the pitcher!'

Step 5 - Scroll down and you can then enter a short description for the image you are about to upload, i.e. 'Uncle Hamish fills the pitcher with water'. Then click on Browse and locate the proper image on your computer. Once you have clicked on it, you will have a brief wait and then a thumbnail of your image will appear. Amazing, eh? You also have the option to delete the image or to edit the description for the image, by clicking on the links. Now it's time to enter the description for the next image and Browse for that one. You can enter up to 6 images in a single gallery. Once you have uploaded all the images you want for this particular gallery, scroll back up under the text entry window and click on Submit.

Step 6 - Sit back and enjoy an appropriately chilled adult beverage, as you are already finished.

Anytime you want to add another gallery (you can have a total of 5 at any given time), just click on the vBPicGallery link and then click on the Manage My vBPicGallery link and you are ready to add another gallery, delete a previous gallery or edit a previous gallery.

The secret is to keep your images smaller in size. Some digital cameras take really large images (1280 pixes X 960 pixels) and that is great. Once you have the image downloaded from the camera to your computer, use an image editing program (I recommend IrfanView) to reduce the image down to 640 pixels X 480 pixels. The image quality will remain high and it will get the image down to a size small enough for the vBPicGallery script to be able to manipulate it. An image must be under 100 kilobytes, in order to be uploaded.

You can have a total of 5 galleries, each with 6 images. And you have to keep image sizes under 100KB. Other than that, if it were any easier, the images would upload themselves.
