One of the projects in the shop now is a '27 roadster body that has been channeled sometime in it's history. The present owner wants to build it as a hiboy. Problem; the body sub-frame is just a memory. Solution; build a new space type sub-frame from 1"x1" square tubing. Problem; how to shape 4 identical tubes to fit the body and frame. Price of gas being what it is makes us aware of the importance of a correct tune. (down here $2:00 a litre is common) I have used this little trick for years on HEI's, it works for other similar systems as well.
What we really want to know is that all the timing is in when we want it. Setting the idle timing and assuming we will get another 20-22 degrees after that is a bit haphazard. This way we know what the full advance setting will be without all that revving. ... [Read More] |

So last night I though I might be able to make a die to press the tube over and force it to take the form I wanted. I found an aluminum... [Read More] |

Hello All,
I stumbled across a little math that allows us to compare the strength of different sizes of tubing. I thought it was interesting, so I am doing a write up in the hope that others will find it useful as well. Please remember to use common sense, and be careful when making important decisions about critical structural components. It's not my fault if you kill yourself!
The idea behind this formula is simple. It allows us to measure the deflection at the end... [Read More] |
